Dancing With The Starts - The Final Threesome
Posted by ctanglefoot on November 27, 2007
Just one more night of dancing and the season is over. Usually the finale night is colourful, exciting, dynamic; tonight’s performances were not up to the usual norms for Freestyle night. Freestyle is a joyous release of the rules, and while tonight there were lifts, it left me wanting a lot more.Where last week’s performances delivered ten after ten, tonight’s performances were lucky to get nines. Okay there was one lone ten on the evening.
Mel B and Maksim began the night with a Cha Cha. I missed this performance. The judges scored them 28 points.
Their Freestyle was kind of herky jerkey in my books. Interesting, but lackluster. The lifts were intriguing, but the footwork was boring. And Mel’s costume? Hideous. The judges scored them straight 9’s for 27 points and 55 on the evening.
Marie and Jonathan opened the night with a Samba. Why the Samba? Because the last Samba this duo did ended with Marie passed out on the floor. It’ was a nice dance, but not finale night great, in fact in relationship to finale night it was boring. Not great musicality. And one of the judges noted, and I totally would concur if asked, Marie is a great entertainer, but the dances showed her dance inabilities. What carries Marie, besides her strong fan base, is her ability to entertain. The judges scored them straight 8s for 24.
The Freestyle was a quirky Marie showcase. Cute, entertaining, fit her ability, but not a finale dance. The judges scored them 8 - 7 - 7 for 22 points. 46 points on the night.
Helio and JulieAnn Jived to open the night. They chose the Jive because the judges had been disappointed by their Jive last week. I like their choice and their reasoning. JulieAnn’s choreography shown once again; the characters were adorable, the dance entertaining, great musicality, and nice footwork. The judges were not as impressed and scored them (to the dismay of JulieAnn) 8 - 8 - 9 for 25 points.
Their Freestyle, rocked. A very entertaining dance, offering interesting role reversal, great lifts, great musicality, good technique, although one or two lift entries were a bit questionable. The judges scored them 9 - 10 - 10 for 29 points. A total of 54 on the night.
The leader board at the end of the night ranked them as follows…
1) Mel B and Maksim - 55 points
2) Helio and JulieAnn - 54 points
3) Marie and Jonathan - 46 points
The winner will be crowned tomorrow night at the conclusion of a two hour finale show that will allow them one last dance. Tune in tomorrow night to find out who wins the Disco Ball Trophy for Season Five of Dancing With The Stars.
